The significant part of this growth pattern is the delayed to absent spurt of growth which normally occurs at the time of puberty. This failure of a normal growth spurt may be due to growth hormone deficiency in the child with evidence of pubertal development; however, in the absence of pubertal development, the most likely proximal reason for growth failure will be related to diminished sex steroid production. In a female, the most common single diagnostic group is Turners mosiasicism.
